Why Every Bacon Lover Needs a Bacon Grilling Rack

The sizzling sound, the smoky aroma, the crispy bites of deliciousness! But have you ever wondered if there’s an even better way of making bacon? Well, it’s time to introduce you to your new best buddy: the bacon grilling rack.

What Is a Bacon Grilling Rack?

Think of a bacon grilling rack as your bacon’s personal lounge chair. Typically made of sturdy, heat-resistant materials like stainless steel, these racks come in various shapes and sizes, with a common goal: to help your bacon reach its full crispy, flavorful potential.

Unlike your usual grilling tools, these racks are custom-made for bacon, with special features like grooves or slots to hold the bacon in place and a grease trap to catch all the drippings.

The Best Types of Bacon Grilling Racks

There are 2 main types — the bacon lounge chair and the baking rack style. At least, that’s how I see them.

Tell me if you’d explain them in a different way 😂

Here’s the lounge chair style:

One isn’t necessarily better than the other, but I prefer the lounge-chair style myself. I started with the baking style because my wife already had a similar one for veggies, but the lounge chair style allows for more room on the grill for burgers.

Why Use a Bacon Grilling Rack?

Other than stating the obvious that using grilling accessories is just fun, bacon that cooks evenly on both sides gives you that perfect level of crispiness. Thanks to its design, a bacon grilling rack lifts your bacon off the grill surface, letting the heat circulate all around.

Not a fan of excessively greasy bacon? The rack’s got you covered there too, helping drain off the extra fat while your bacon cooks.

Oh, and did I mention they’re easy to clean too? No more scrubbing off stubborn grease from your grill or dealing with a splattering frying pan. It’s as simple as arranging the bacon, grilling, and then a quick clean-up afterward.

If you’ve got a flat top grill, like a Blackstone, you may be wondering why the heck this thing even exists. But when you use a bacon grilling rack in a charcoal or pellet grill and get that extra smoke on there, it’s a real game-changer!

How To Use It

When using a bacon grilling rack, it’s easy to get perfect bacon no matter what type of grill you’re using. Whether it’s a pellet grill, a charcoal grill, or even one of those fancy pellet/gas combo grills. Just follow these 3 steps:

  • First, prep your grill and make sure your rack is clean.
  • Then, arrange your bacon strips on the rack—be careful not to overcrowd them for the best results.
  • Grill on medium heat until just before you reach your desired doneness.

Just remember, safety first! Always use grill gloves or tongs when handling your rack.

Pro Tip: If you’ve got hot spots on your grill or smoker, rotate the rack mid-cook for even heat distribution.
